Preparation is a key aspect of rhinoplasty cosmetic surgery procedure. Safer and more satisfactory outcomes are usually achieved by patients who are well-prepared for the surgery.
Preparation Before Initial Consultation
Preparation for rhinoplasty can begin from the moment the patient has made up their mind to go ahead with the procedure. Prior to visiting the surgeon’s office for the pre-op consultation, the patient should:
- Ask for their medical records to be sent from the physician and any specialists to the office of the nose surgeon. The surgeon will be able to determine the patient’s fitness to undergo a procedure such as rhinoplasty.
- Contact the health insurance provider to check if there are any conditions in which the costs of rhinoplasty cosmetic surgery may be covered by insurance.
- Arrange the relevant medical insurance documents to carry to the surgeon’s office for the consultation.
- Make a detailed list of current prescription and non-prescription medications, including herbal supplements and vitamins, and show to the surgeon during the consultation.
- Learn more about rhinoplasty as well as the surgeon’s practice through their official practice website to be able to ask relevant questions from the surgeon before making a final decision.
- Select photos from publications or websites that best represent the kind of nose that the patient may like to have.
These advance efforts will help the patient to have a more useful and production rhinoplasty consultation.
Before the Surgery
The nose surgeon will usually instruct the patient to follow these preparatory guidelines before the procedure:
- Stop smoking for at least two to three weeks prior to rhinoplasty.
- Do not drink alcohol for at least 48 hours prior to the surgery.
- Follow a balanced diet, and increase the intake of lean proteins in consultation with nutritionist.
- Get any nose x-rays or lab tests conducted as advised by the surgeon.
- Complete any pressing household or office tasks in advance in order to have a stress-free recovery.
- Arrange for groceries, over the counter pain meds, ice packs and other necessities at home prior to the surgery.
- A day before the surgery: sleep well at night, do not eat or drink anything eight hours before surgery, and wash hair and body thoroughly.
- Wear comfortable or loose fitting clothes with front buttons to the surgery center, and do not wear makeup, jewelry, or other valuables.
- If the patient is a diabetic, they should get their vital parameters checked on the morning of the surgery.
Transportation and Aftercare
The patient should arrange for a responsible person to drive them back home after the rhinoplasty surgery. They should also preferably have a family member or a friend stay with them for the first two or three days to assist you with household chores.
