Top Plastic Surgery Procedures for Women and Men

Model, not actual patient.

Until a few decades ago, cosmetic surgery procedures were perceived to be the exclusive domain of celebrities and film actors and outside the reach of the average person. But quickly improving surgical technologies made these procedures more accessible and affordable and brought them within the reach of the general population.

And who does not want to look good? Why do models have to only be the pretty ones? How come a retail sales professional or a civil engineer cannot look terrific too? Well, they can! It is a brave new world.

High safety and success rates in cosmetic procedures have further led to their growing popularity in the US. Although a majority of the procedures are still chosen only by women, but men now increasingly seek these treatments to enhance their physical appearance and self-confidence.

Board certified female plastic surgeon Dr. Farah Naz Khan provides cosmetic procedures to patients in Dallas, Texas, and other cities and suburbs in this part of The Lone Star State.

Wide Acceptance

Plastic surgeons as well as patients now whole-heartedly appreciate and endorse cosmetic procedures as safe, proven and effective options to restore an attractive and youthful look. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) has stated in its latest multi-specialty statistical report that Americans spent over $15 billion on invasive and non-invasive cosmetic procedures in 2016. This translates to a year on year growth of 11 percent over 2015.

Cosmetic surgery comprised nearly 56 percent of these procedures, while 44 percent were non-surgical procedures. This figure of $15 billion represents the biggest amount spent on these treatments in a year ever since ASAPS established its annual Cosmetic Surgery National Data Bank Statistics survey about two decades ago.

ASAPS researchers say that the aesthetic aspirations of American people are undergoing a transformation. A growing number of women and men now want to choose refined and understated cosmetic procedures. Fat transfer breast enhancement, for instance, is now more popular because women do not want to make the results look very obvious. Similarly, breast lift is also in greater demand due to its subtle effects.

In any case, this trend is not a commentary on the demand for breast implant surgery. Absolute numbers still favor breast implants, with the procedure ranking in second place after liposuction in the US. Surgeries such as labiaplasty that were once viewed as niche are now becoming mainstream. Men’s procedures ranging from neck lift to tummy tuck to Botox are increasingly popular.

Five Most In-Demand Procedures

The five most sought after procedures in 2016, according to the ASAPS data, for both women and men combined, include:

  • Liposuction – 414,335 procedures
  • Breast Augmentation – 310,444 procedures
  • Tummy Tuck – 181,540 procedures
  • Eyelid Surgery – 173,883 procedures
  • Breast Lift – 161,412 procedures

Liposuction

Liposuction surgery ranks as the most popular body contouring procedure to reduce targeted fat pockets.

Breast Augmentation

Women seek both traditional breast implant surgery and fat transfer breast augmentation to enhance their breast size.

Tummy Tuck

Tummy tuck can help to create a more youthful abdomen, and may be performed independently or in conjunction with other procedures.

Eyelid Surgery

Upper and lower eyelid surgery can make the eyes and upper face look more alert and youthful.

Breast Lift

Breast lift is designed to firm up sagging breasts and subtly lift the position of downward pointing nipples.
