What is a Breast Lift?

Also known as a mastopexy, a breast lift can tighten and elevate your breasts to a more youthful and perkier position. By reshaping the breast tissue and removing excess skin, several conditions can be corrected such as flat, elongated or sagging breasts, downward pointing nipples, and/or large areolas.

How is it performed?

Incisions are usually placed around the areola, from the areola down towards the breast crease, and underneath the breast. This is often known as a “keyhole” or “anchor” shaped incision. In some cases, you may only need an incision around the areola or an incision around the areola that goes down to the breast crease. Depending on the size of your breasts as well as how much excess skin you have and the position of your nipples, Dr. Khan will discuss with you which incision type is most appropriate. During the procedure, skin and breast glandular tissue will be excised and/or repositioned to elevate your nipple position and breasts. The incisions are closed with internal sutures.

What to expect after surgery?

This procedure is performed on an outpatient basis, meaning you will go home the day of your surgery. You will have bandages covering your incision sites and you will be given oral pain medication to help with any soreness that you may feel. You may see some bruising and swelling which will subside gradually over a couple of weeks. Your scars will be especially visible immediately after your surgery and while these will never completely disappear, they will fade over the following year.
