Ideal Candidate for Chin Implants
There are several cosmetic advantages of undergoing a chin augmentation surgery. Your board certified female plastic surgeon will determine whether you make a good candidate for the procedure or not. Ideal candidates typically have one or more of the following:
- Pointed or squared chin
- Prominent nose
- Recessed chin
- Fleshy neck

Procedure for Chin Enlargement
Recessive chin implant plastic surgery makes use of implants to enhance the existing bone in the lower jaw underneath the teeth. Biocompatible synthetic implant is placed at the front of the jaw to offer definition and strength to the chin. This is a permanent procedure which offers proportionate, natural, and appealing appearance.
Your cosmetic surgeon will make an incision inside the mouth between the gum and lower lip or beneath the chin. Incisions that are made inside the mouth are at a higher risk of bacterial infection. However, they are also less conspicuous.
The plastic surgeon will place and position the chin implant under the skin right in front of the jawbone. They will make sure that the implant looks natural and is properly balanced. The implant is sutured into position and the incision closed.
Chin Implants Plastic Surgery Risks
Chin augmentation using implants is a relatively safe procedure. However, it does come with all other risks common among implant surgeries. For instance, the implant may migrate requiring a second procedure for readjustment. Infections are also possible, but can be prevented with antibiotics.
Duration of Recovery and Results
You may experience mild pain and soreness after the surgery for a few days. Your board certified female plastic surgeon will prescribe medications to control the pain. Your chin may remain numb for up to three months following the procedure. Major inflammation should subside within six weeks. However, this depends on the extent of the procedure.
Your surgeon may remove the outside bandage in seven days. You may be required to wear a sleeping brace for at least 30 days following the chin implant surgery. Most patients resume work and routine activities within 7 to 10 days. However, you should keep away from strenuous activities. Chin implants are usually permanent and good for life.
