How is the consultation and procedure performed?

Dr. Khan will first discuss and examine your areas of concern to determine if you are a candidate for Neograft®. If you are a candidate, she will provide an estimate of the average number of hair grafts needed to best address your hair loss. She will also demonstrate the proposed new hairline so you can visualize your results. After you have booked your surgery date, you will have another preop appointment to address any additional questions/concerns. Your minimally invasive procedure will be performed at our state-of-the-art surgery facility. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia so you will be awake throughout the entire surgery. In fact, while the surgical team is harvesting and implanting the donor hairs, most of our patients are lounging comfortably and watching TV. The entire procedure takes several hours and once the donor hairs have all been implanted and the dressings have been applied, you are able to drive yourself home to begin the recovery process!

What to expect after undergoing Neograft® treatment?

After you undergo hair restoration with Neograft®, you will have a dressing on top of the donor site. This dressing can be removed the day after, and antibiotic ointment should be applied to this area to allow it to heal. This area will typically heal within a couple of days. The recipient area with the new hair grafts will need to be protected for 7-14 days, meaning you cannot touch this area while it heals. Patients can still shower but the recipient site must be cleansed with water/shampoo from a cup to prevent excess pressure from the shower head. Many patients opt to wear a loose-fitting trucker hat to protect the hair grafts while they are healing. Pain medication is not necessary, but you may experience itching and/or a numbing sensation in the recipient site. Depending on the type of work you perform, return to work can be as early as one-two days after the procedure!
