Nipple And Areola Reduction Surgery

Nipple Surgery

Nipple And Areola Reduction Surgery Breast appearance is a major factor that contributes to an attractive body. Women who are unhappy with the way their breasts look can choose from several different procedures such as breast augmentation or a breast lift. Breast augmentation helps to enlarge small breasts, while a breast lift is performed to raise the breast and reposition the nipple.

During these procedures, it is also possible to adjust the size of the areola that surrounds the nipple. Khan Plastic Surgery, led by board certified female plastic surgeon Dr. Farah Naz Khan provides nipple and areola reduction procedures to patients in Dallas, Texas, and surrounding communities.

Who Can Undergo Nipple and Areola Reduction Surgery?

Aesthetic breasts have well-positioned nipples and symmetrical areolae. After breastfeeding, or with age, breasts tend to sag. This means the nipple moves to a position below the inframammary fold which lies under the breast. In these cases, a cosmetic surgeon may recommend a breast lift. If the areolae have stretched or grown puffy or enlarged, they may suggest an areola reduction procedure, too.

Nipple and areola reduction surgery is a good choice for women who have:

  • Droopy or long or protruding nipples
  • Asymmetrical nipples
  • Areolae that are disproportionate to breast size
  • Puffy or irregular shaped areolae

What Are the Benefits of Areola and Nipple Reduction?

Areola and nipple reduction are procedures that are simple and safe when performed by skilled and experienced surgeons. They generally do not require general anesthesia. They may be combined with other breast enhancement procedures to improve the overall breast appearance.

Women who undergo these plastic surgery procedures feel more confident about wearing lingerie or clothes in which their breasts or nipples are visible. They also often experience better self-esteem in intimate situations.

What Happens in a Nipple and Areola Reduction Surgery?

Cosmetic surgeons may perform nipple and areola reduction procedures under local anesthesia. When combined with other breast enhancement procedures such as breast augmentation or breast lift, they may choose to use general anesthesia.

In areola reduction, the surgeon measures and removes a ring of tissue along the outer edge of the areola. This procedure is combined with a nipple reduction if the patient so desires. Using sutures, the surgeon closes the incisions and bandages the area.

What is the Recovery Process after Nipple and Areola Reduction?

Following the surgery, the doctor applies a special dressing to maintain the position of the nipple. When performed with only a local anesthetic, the doctor will discharge you soon after the surgery.

You may experience a little swelling or bruising or tingling or numbness after surgery. This will settle down after a few weeks. Some people may feel some pain post-surgery, but it will respond to simple pain relieving medication.

Complete recovery will take a few weeks. Plan to have someone drive you home after the procedure and arrange for help at home for at least the first few days following the surgery.
